The Phoenixville Area School District Kindergarten Center represents our strong commitment to early childhood education.


  • The District provides a comprehensivereading Kindergarten program and a nurturing environment to ensure a successful start for our youngest students.
  • Our goal is to foster the growth of all students academically, physically, socially and emotionally.
  • Our full-day program provides a wide variety of learning experiences for all students. An optional half-day program is also available.

A Day in the Life of a Kindergartener:

English Language Arts: The components of our balanced literacy program include — Writing Workshop , Read Aloud, Shared Reading, Guided Reading, Independent Reading, Language Experience Approach (LEA), Fundations®, and Literacy Intervention/Enrichment (RtII) — which promote integrated and rigorous instruction, resulting in 96% of last year’s kindergarten class reading on or above grade level at the end of the school year.

Mathematics: Math in Focus (sometimes known as Singapore Math) is implemented K-6. Students concentrate on problem solving and learn to understand the “how” and “why” of mathematical concepts in order to develop strong mathematical thinking skills. Instruction incorporates concrete (e.g., manipulatives), pictorial (e.g., graphs), and abstract (e.g., numerals) pedagogy to achieve mastery in skills.

Science: Students explore science themes using the integration of reading and hands-on activities (using Defined STEM) with the following topics: Seasons/Weather, the Five Senses, Plants, Insects, and Animals.

Social Studies: Social Studies themes are explored using the integration of reading and other activities with the following topics: Basic Map Skills, Citizenship, Community Service, Holidays, and Famous Americans.

Technology: Students are introduced to the use of computers as a tool for learning and communication, using software that complements curriculum and provides practice of concepts/skills in subject areas.

School-wide Positive Behavior Supports (SWPBS): Students are supported using a research-based framework that implements behavioral support strategies through consistent modeling and practice, guided by data-based decision- making.

Spanish: Students develop confidence in and knowledge of the Spanish language by practicing speaking numbers,
colors, family words, and short phrases.

Hands On Experiments: Students investigate and explore through science experiments, cooking, and other hands on activities.

Rhythm and Motion: Students practice different rhythms and movements through singing, using instruments, and listening to a variety of music.

Gross Motor: Students exercise through outside movement, games, and teamwork building activities.

Creativity Corner: Students create through group art activities, extended art projects, 3D projects, and using individual expression.
